Potted Dwarf Matag Coconut

The MATAG coconut is a high-yielding, hybrid coconut variety developed in Malaysia, named from MAlayan and TAGnan. It is a cross between the Malayan Dwarf and Tagnanan Tall coconut varieties, known for producing larger fruits with more flesh and sweeter water, making it a popular choice for farmers.

Hybrid Name:

MATAG stands for MAlayan and TAGnan. 

Origin:

Developed in Malaysia, a hybrid of Malayan Dwarf (female) and Tagnanan Tall (male) parents. 

Yield:

High yielding, with one tree producing around 70-100 coconuts per year, though estimates vary and yield per hectare is approximately 25,000-40,000 coconuts. 

Fruit Characteristics:

Known for producing larger coconuts than other hybrid varieties, with thick flesh and sweet coconut water. 

Tree:

A medium-statured palm that can reach a height of up to 15 meters. 

Maturity:

Bears fruit from the fourth year of planting. 

Economic Life:

Has an economic lifespan of up to 30 years.
