This herbaceous plant offers a calorie-free alternative to sugar, with its sweet and flavorful leaves. It is grown for its sweet-tasting leaves. The leaves contain a number of sweet-tasting chemicals known as steviol glycosides, which can be used fresh or dried to sweeten beverages.
Steviol glycosides, particularly the Stevioside and Rebaudioside, are more than 300 times sweeter than table sugar and are non-glycemic (i.e., they do not affect blood glucose levels). Hence, a healthier alternative to sugar.Full sun to partial sun. Check regularly and water as needed.
Water thoroughly when the soil turns slightly dry to the touch.
Never let the soil dry out completely. Gently trim away dry, brown, or yellowish leaves by using a pair of secateurs. Feed with organic fertilizer at least once a month.
